Losing belly fat is almost every person's dream - at some point you would have wondered what having a nice stomach would be and feel like. The fact of the matter is it isn't truly that difficult to lose belly fat. There are hundreds of exercises created just to "spot-target" the abdomen and the belly containing fat. However, none of these "spot-targeted" exercises work to actually make you lose belly fat. Your body has fat all over the place. It is built within the whole of your body. This being said, you cannot just target one fatty problem in your body. If you are making a goal of losing that pot belly of yours, you should expect on seeing physical changes to your whole body, as well.

Fat is stored within your body in special "compartments" known as "adipocytes". They act as a storage facility for fat, which happens to be one of the main energy sources for our body. Pending how many calories we intake and lose with exercise, these adipocytes will expand, making us fatter, or contract, making us thinner and releasing fat for energy our body needs. If you want to get thin and lose belly fat, you are going to have to get those adipocytes to release that fat. The only way to do that is to get your muscles hungry and in need of energy.

As you can imagine, adipocytes aren't always the friendliest for those that need to lighten up their weight. Adipocytes around the hips, thighs and buttocks are by far more stubborn to remove and release fat less often than other areas containing adipocytes. However if you really want to lose belly fat only, you are in luck. The fastest releasing adipocytes are generally those in the abdominal region. This means that any type of exercise you do, whether it be doing crunches and sit-ups to bench presses or running miles, it will help you lose belly fat. However, if you have belly fat, you usually hold your share of a far more stubborn fat... meet the evil other half: love handles.

You can typically lose belly fat somewhat easily (in relative terms), however Love handles are another story. These two words are enough to embarrass and haunt hundreds of millions of people around the world. Located on the sides of your abdomen and upper thighs, the adiposities here are ridiculously slow to show any signs of releasing their fat. Good attracts good.

However whats also important with losing belly fat and love handles are the health problems you won't have to deal with now or ever. Doctors have been putting more and more research into problems with body fat and the effects it can have on us. It's no wonder that it has been such a serious issue now. Over 60% of Americans aged 20 years and up are either overweight or obese. This comes with serious health issues. Medical experts have been able to conclude that not losing belly fat and love handles is a leading cause of diabetes and high cholesterol! Not losing those love handles that come with the fat around your abdomen is, for lack of a better word, dumb.

There are plenty of alternatives to junk food that are just as delicious, contain fewer calories and will fill you up just the same as a chocolate snack waiting for you in the fridge. One secret food used to help you lose belly fat that many point to is: celery.

Funny fact: Your body will use more calories to chew up and swallow that stick of celery than there are calories in the celery! Of course, eating that celery stick may help you see a difference in your weight and the appearance of your whole body, but firstly I'd never recommend you just eat celery. While it would probably work wonders for losing belly fat (while you suffer from mal nutrition) unfortunately even if you did eat celery alone with monk like willpower, you'd still have a hard time losing your love handles.

However regarding the pot belly, you want to get into the swing of creating a regular exercise routine so you can start seeing the loss of belly fat. Exercise is essential to get your muscles needing that energy resource we love to hate, fat. Burning more calories than you take in each day is the first step in the path to lose belly fat the right way. To make sure you are doing it safely, though, you shouldn't be overdoing it. Figure out a your proper body metabolism rate, use calorie calculators to figure out your daily intake, and research activities that will help you burn those calories efficiently without suffocating the calories you need to perform everyday tasks... Losing belly fat isn't always a fast task, and undertaking a goal to lose belly fat should be taken with dedication to the task. Taking drastic measures to lose belly fat too fast can create serious medical complications, however typically I am more worried about doing too little. It's all too easy to get caught into that "I'll skip any reduce fat effort today" trap at the beginning.

While exercise and eating right can put you on the right tracks to lose belly fat, chances are you'll still be stuck with love handles.
