Looking for some basic exercises to get rid of your love handles?
These are some exercises I use now and then. While they are "good", the full story goes far beyond basic exercises - I go in great detail and in my guide; Remove Your Love Handles!
Before we start, take a moment to learn what love handles actually are:
Love handles are the excess fats deposited around the belly. For years, fitness experts have tried to eliminate these excess deposits of by employing different types of diets, even Yoga exercises and calisthenics, or by subjecting the body to the Chinese ancient methods of acupressure or acupuncture. These methods were, interestingly, found to be very effective in one way or another as a form of love handle exercises. However, there are millions of people who find it hard to go on a diet, and have no time to enroll in a Yoga class each week.
Others on the other hand are just too modernised to try Yoga. Studies have shown that engaging in regular exercise or physical activity can manage if not eliminate these unwanted fats, however...

Here we go, love handle exercise #1:
* Lying Crunches
Lying crunches are done while lying straight on your back This particular exercise is more for your abdomen but I mention it here because it is still a good "bonus" exercise to attempt to do while trying to lose love handles. Simply bend your arms behind your head, a palm on top of the other and flex your knees high enough so that you can almost reach your knees when you outstretch your hands. While maintaining this position, inhale deeply then lean straight forward as if you are trying to reach your knees with your forehead. As you return to the original position, exhale slowly.
Do this exercise for as long as you can. Typically 30 repetitions are a good start. If you can't get up to 30, do as many as you can. Everyone has a different background. The goal is to improve, theres no competition. You will most likely feel sore in your stomach by the end. No pain no gain - unfortunately this is true when conditioning your body, although I look at different strategies in the guide.
* Oblique Crunches For The Sides
These love handle exercises are done to tone the oblique muscles on each side of the body. This part of the body is very hard to tone. In fact, oblique fats are far harder to eliminate than standard belly fat.
To do oblique crunches, lie on your side and slowly raise the top leg up. While raising a leg, try to maintain your position. Similarly, as with a lying crunch, inhale and exhale as you move your leg up and down. Try to lift each leg as high as you can. Attempt to do 40 reps, rotating between each leg. You may find you get a form of "cramp" in your leg while doing this. This means your leg's need more conditioning as the particular muscles required have not been overly used in your day to day life and are basically "untrained". Redo this exercise and the cramps will go away.
* But If You Don't Like Crunches, Lift Weights
There are people who do not like or cant lie down on the floor to exercise. You can try another love handle exercise by using two dumbbells. 5kg's each is plenty initially.
If you don't have dumbbells available, you might even be able to use two shopping bags from your next visit to the grocery store. Be sure not to hold anything that is overly heavy as you can cause more harm than good. Grab your two weights/dumbbells and hold them to the sides of each of your legs. Now let the dumbbell in your right hand drag your body down sideways towards the floor underneath the dumbbell. Make sure to go sideways only, not forward or backwards. Once you've bent as far as you can sideways, drag yourself back up in the same sideways motion until you get to standing position again, and smoothly continue to the left side, bending sideways as far as you comfortably can.
Remember to exhale as you bring yourself to standing position, and inhale as you drop back down. Run through 40 repetitions or as much as you can comfortably achieve.
